Rumor: Gearbox Working on Halo 4 for New Xbox?

New Xbox? Halo 4? Gearbox Software? My head is spinning right now! Supposedely the guys over at OXM recently visited homebase of Gearbox Software in Dallas, and left with a rumor that could shake the very foundation of the video game industry. Gearbox software is working on Halo 4, which will be a launch title for Microsoft's next Xbox. I know, I had to read it twice too. Gearbox, who is probably best known for their extremely gritty Brothers in Arms series, has stated for quite some time that they were working on something huge. I think it's safe to say that this would qualify as something in the realm of huge. Remember back in February when Gearbox Software big boss Randy Pitchford teased his studio's next project as something "big"? Well, not just "big" but something that was "even bigger" than anything Gearbox is currently working on? Well, the kids at OXM sure remembered and they sent their spies deep undercover into Gearbox territory and came back with one heck of a rumor for their October issue: Gearbox is working on Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox (NextBox?). -- Joystiq I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it's definitely interesting. The Brothers in Arms games are arguably some of the best shooters out there, and they really have proven that they know how to make a good FPS. With Bungie being thoroughly sick of creating Halo games I think there's a very good chance that this could happen. It's made even more interesting by the fact that Gearbox has a page that shows off all of their games with a reserved blank space reading "Unannounced Title - Coming Soon!" What do you guys think?

Turning Point team surprised by critical slamming (Turning Point: Fall of Liberty)

Tight budgets and Codemasters were to blame for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty's poor critical reception, according to Spark Unlimited producer John Garcia-Shelton.

Speaking exclusively to OXM, he explains why Turning Point wasn't what it could have been.

"We all hoped it could do well because the game has some creatively strong ideas and powerful sequences," he explains, "but we always worried that the game was not going to be competitive with titles built on two, three or four times the budget - everyone was surprised by Codemasters' front line retail pricing strategy - but even then no one thought it would be critically slammed quite so hard."

How's that for a kick in the pants? If reports by OXM are true, than Gearbox Software is creating the next numbered Halo title for Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor. The company has both a history with Microsoft and the Halo series.

There have been those who have long awaited the opportunity to experience World of Warcraft on their home consoles (why throw away your life so recklessly?), but Blizzard has been unrelenting in their stance of keeping the divide between their software and the hardware of Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony strong. Surely, there must be some sort of vendetta or grudge here, right?"World of Warcraft is designed as a PC game. It's designed to have a keyboard and a mouse. So the controls and the control scheme that you have are very PC centric. If you think about mapping those controls and all those different type of buttons that you have to a console without a keyboard for chatting, it's a very challenging proposition." -- J. Brothers in Arms house Gearbox Software has “definitely had conversations with Microsoft about doing a new Halo game,” according to a Variety report.

Ben Fritz with Variety’s The Cut Scene blog backed up rumors earlier this week that Gearbox is working on the unannounced Halo 4, citing an unnamed source.

Final Fantasy XIII on Japanese 360? 'Absolutely Not'

All this back and forth over whether or not Final Fantasy XIII will come out for the Xbox 360 in Japan... who can tell what to believe? Well, looks like things have just been settled:Nomura says that he himself was "surprised" at the FFXIII Xbox 360 Asia version news, saying that Microsoft's comment ("It would be nice if the game came out") was taken to mean that it was actually confirmed for Asia. More interesting than that clusterfuck is Toriyama's comment about whether or not Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan on the Xbox 360 platform:There will absolutely not be an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII for Japan.Obviously Toriyama is not mincing words. He's being crystal clear. But, really, why not release it on the Xbox 360 in Japan? Sales of the game in both America and Europe (in multiple languages) on both platforms are likely to exceed the Japanese sales markets ? so what's the point of no mulit-platform for domestic consumers? From a business stand point, Toriyama's statement seems rather odd. -- KotakuKotaku goes on to mention that this could be next year's version of "MGS4 on 360." I think I'm inclined to agree. Moreover, I'm surprised that anyone over here really cares that much.

A portion of a DSF review… N+ seems to be fulfilling its destiny as a handheld game. What was an excellent computer game is now a brilliant DS game whose unique structure allows players to have an awesome time for as long as they have time or patience for. Full review here

Call of Duty: World at War Weapons, Multiplayer Perks Declassified

Activision released the official weapon and perk list for the upcoming multiplatform Call of Duty: World at War, and it's official: The game will have guns, and lots of them. While the gun roster probably really only matters most to the most hardcore World War II enthusiasts, the perks are what veteran online Call of Duty players are highly interested in. Most of the perks are recycled from last year's game, like the grenade-dropping Martyrdom and sniper-friendly Iron Lungs, but there are a few new ones that sound fun, like the Play Dead and Banzai perks. The Activision press release groups all the weapons by country, which got me thinking that you'll be limited to which guns and accessories you can access in an online match by the world power whose side you join up with. The game publishing giant hasn't commented on this thus far, and since you could access all weapons in CoD 4's multiplayer, I wouldn't be too worried. Still, it may be something to consider.
